The trick is to define what you need to do. Also their mobile apps are very good and up-to-date. It's actively maintained and the team responds quickly. Things, but when you find your way around, it's capable of a lot more. Doesn't that make GTD more tedious than it should be? Also, is there a weekly review in your workflow? (Or is it possible to use in OmniFocus?)Īs to your question about Todoist and TickTick: Both are indeed missing this functionality. I do want to learn OmniFocus and understand it, but as I understand it from you, using it requires giving each task a starting date. Yet no matter how many options OmniFocus has, I can't find anything that seems to correspond to Today, Next or Someday. This is to me the most basic aspect of GTD. Each day, during the daily review, I check the Next list and move items to Today. Every week, during the weekly review, I scan the Someday list and move the items I want to do during the week to Next. The way I learned GTD, it's very simple: there's a 'Next' list of things (projects or tasks) you want to do this week (or during the period you choose) and a 'Someday' list with inactive items. Trying OmniFocus now but I really feel like I'm missing something.

I'm currently experiencing the exact opposite. But I just refuse to into meetings with stupid cow icon and comic sans on my desktop. The only other GTD app with start dates I’ve found is remember the milk. How do you then pluck out the key tasks for the day?Īm I doing something wrong? Most of the todo apps seem to omit a defer/start date? I feel like I’m missing something? But it’s usually too late, I normally need at least a couple days notice to prepare some items. There is no start date!? It just dumps everything “due” into my today view. It’s a brilliant way to prevent being overwhelmed by tasks.īut in TickTick or Todoist. I then flag a couple of critical tasks I want to work on and that’s it! Those key tasks are isolated in the “Flag” perspective. My normal workflow involves opening a list in OmniFocus which contains all the tasks that are past their start date or are “available” and OmniFocus highlights in yellow/red the ones that are/will be due in the next couple of days. I don’t want to be notified of tasks when they become due, I want to know before hand! And I don’t want to see a task until I can actually work on it. I like TickTick but I don’t understand how you use it without a start/defer date?

Unfortunately my company is now locking everything down to windows and I’ve been looking for something cross platform. The separation of defer dates and due dates has been intrinsic to my daily project management. I got into GTD about a year ago when I somehow discovered OmniFocus.
